The core Bioinformatics department at Liberty BioSecurity (LBS) leverages expertise in biology, chemistry, advanced computing techniques, artificial intelligence (AI) and applied mathematics. These core disciplines combine to yield novel bioinformatics algorithms and methods for executing previously impossible computations through advanced computing techniques. Our core focus has placed LBS as a leader in novel next generation sequencing (NGS) development and applied algorithm development to solve complex problems in biotechnology, precision medicine, and government.
Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) Capabilities
LBS has leveraged advanced computing infrastructure in a variety of ways to analyze large data sets. Our data scientists have experience working with and analyzing Petabytes of information.
Our NGS expertise in microbial metagenomics, clinical and healthcare informatics and the development of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms enable us to stream raw DNA, RNA, and protein sequence data in real-time for tertiary analysis. We use graph-based data technologies to provide high-level overview and associations to the data we collect. These data are in turn combined at various levels to be executed in Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms that derive novel biologic and clinical insights for decision making.
LBS engineers and programmers have experience and expertise in managing big datasets that leverage proprietary and open-sourced technologies. Our computational pipelines have seen the execution of operations that take months on commodity hardware reduced to a matter of hours. The ability to scale out and execute massive computations in short periods of time provides precise, computationally intensive methods that give novel insight into data.
The ability to generate, analyze, and pull metadata from massive datasets forms the foundational work for our data science teams. Nanowire™, developed by Liberty BioSecurity, LLC, is a fully automated bioinformatics pipeline that can be used for a variety of genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic and metabolomic analyses. Nanowire™ consists of a propriety collection of customizable software modules. The functionality of these modules includes, but are not limited to, 16s ribosomal analysis, RNAseq analysis, in silco mass spectrometry functional protein identification, MAPS (Mass spectrometry, Annotated genome, Protein express, Systemic biology) analysis, phylogenetic analysis, and metabolic pathway/phenotypic characterization. The Nanowire™ pipeline utilizes advanced computing technology and a proprietary architecture to provide rapid data analysis and can be run on a cloud-based platform or as part of a local system.
Operationally, a user of Nanowire™ would select the modules desired for a specific project via a graphical user interface after which the necessary data would be dragged and dropped into the system. The Nanowire™ pipeline would then process the data according to the user specifications and provide a final report. During the analysis, every process, generated file and file modification is monitored and reported by the Nanowire™Internal Data Management system (IDM). IDM efficiently curates all inputs and outputs into a logical and easy-to-use data lake and streamlines data storage and results reporting for the user.
