Senior Advisors

David Sinclair | Co-Founder, Chief Scientific Advisor
Liberty Co-founder and Chief Scientific Advisor, Dr. David Sinclair is a Professor at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Paul F. Glenn Laboratory for Aging Research. David is one of the world's leading geneticists in the field of human performance, anti-ageing and longevity. David has received more than twenty scientific and public service awards including the Australian Research Medal. Medical enterprises built by David in the areas of infectious and chronic disease have attracted more than a billion dollars in investment. David was named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2014.

Ari Patrinos | Board Member
Liberty Board member, Dr. Aristides Patrinos is a global authority on structural biology, genomics, global environmental change, and nuclear medicine. Ari is the former Director of the Office of Biological and Environmental Research in the United States Department of Energy, where he was a leader in the Human Genome Project. His work and research has defined many of the policies the United States employs with regard to the fields of genomics and biology.

Carlos Bustamante | Board Member
Liberty Board member, Dr. Carlos Bustamante is a Professor at Stanford University's School of Medicine, and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Data Science. Considered one of America's leading population geneticists, Carlos answers the most challenging problems in human and biological identification. Among Carlos' many awards was his 2010 MacArthur 'Genius' Fellowship for his groundbreaking work analyzing genome wide patterns of variation within and between species to address fundamental questions in biology and medicine. In 2017, Carlos was named a Chan Zuckerberg Investigator to carry out non-conventional scientific exploration.

Lon Augustenborg | Board Member
Liberty Board member, Lon Augustenborg. A 35-year member of the United States' Central Intelligence Agency where he retired as a member of the Senior Intelligence Service. Lon led the CIA’s largest domestic office, where he worked closely with the U.S. private sector. Lon served as Chief of Station in CIA’s flag ship locations across East Asia and Latin America as well as Chief of Operations for CIA’s Counterintelligence Center.

James Cole | Board Member
Liberty Board member, James Cole, is the former Deputy Attorney General of the United States. After returning to private practice in 2015, Jim's legal work work has focused on white-collar crime, privacy and cybersecurity. Jim leverages his policy experience as a senior leader in the U.S. national security and law enforcement communities to ensure that Liberty's capabilities are positioned to address global challenges.

Rajendra Apte | Board Member
Liberty Board member, Dr. Raj Apte, M.D., Ph.D. is the Paul A. Cibis Distinguished Professor, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science Professor, Department of Developmental Biology Professor, Department of Medicine, Director of Translational Research Washington University School of Medicine. Raj is one of America's leading surgeons and researchers into the human eye, whose innovations enhance optical capability while mitigating threats from both injury and disease.

Liberty Co-founder and Chairman, Edward Schulak is a philanthropist, architect, entrepreneur, inventor, international business leader and a director and funder of genetics, life sciences and pharmaceuticals. Ed’s enterprises have shaped the international marketplace while his service on numerous charitable, academic, and business boards have fostered innovation and intellectual inquiry across the globe.

Jason Anderson | Co-founder, Chief Executive Officer
Liberty Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Jason Anderson, brings to Liberty leadership experience that draws on a decade of service abroad in senior government positions. Jason is charged with ensuring that Liberty's integrated life science capabilities anticipate tomorrow's global challenges.

Mike Harris | Chief Strategy Officer
Liberty Chief Strategy Officer, Mike Harris, is a retired member of the United States' Central Intelligence Agency where he was a member of the Senior Intelligence Service. For over three decades, Mike participated in and managed numerous large scale government programs across the globe. Mike is a former United States Marine Corps Officer with a background in biological sciences.

Sean Riley | Chief Business Officer
Liberty Chief Business Officer, Sean Riley, is a former member of the United States’ Central Intelligence Agency and Department of Defense.  Sean has an extensive background in national security operations, and advanced certifications in Program Development and Program Management.

Dr. Mark Boguski | Chief Medical Officer
Liberty Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mark Boguski, M.D., Ph.D. has extensive experience across the life sciences value chain as an executive in the biotechnology, diagnostics and pharmaceutical industries. Mark has served on the faculties of Harvard Medical School, the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the U.S. National Institutes of Health.  Mark has been an advisor to numerous medical research organizations and is the recipient of many honors and awards including elected membership in the U.S. National Academy of Medicine. Mark is a former reviewing editor for Science and former Editor-in-Chief of Genomics. A global authority on cancer, in 2009 Forbes Magazine credited Mark as the originator of the term 'precision medicine'.

Dr. Jose Morey | Chief Medical Innovation Officer
Liberty Chief Medical Innovation Officer, Dr. Jose Morey, M.D., is a clinical radiologist who is passionate about harnessing technology, artificial intelligence and innovation to improve the human condition. Jose has served as a Senior Medical Scientist with IBM Watson Research, Chief Engineering Council in charge of Human Factors for Hyperloop Transportation Technologies and the Medical Technology and Artificial Intelligence Advisor for NASA iTech. Jose holds academic professorships at the University of Virginia and Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Kyle Landry | Chief Scientist, Expeditionary Science and Special Programs
Liberty Chief Scientist, Expeditionary Science and Special Programs, Dr. Kyle Landry is an expert in microbiology and the isolation of novel enzymes. In addition to directing research efforts at Liberty’s Expeditionary Programs Laboratory, Kyle is a Junior Faculty Member at Boston University.

Lindsay Wu | Science Director
Liberty (Australia) Science Director, Dr. Lindsay Wu, is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) and holds an academic position leading the Laboratory for Ageing Research at UNSW Australia. Lindsay is prominent in the fields of metabolic biochemistry and the molecular biology of ageing, and is an expert in eukaryotic protein secretion, having pioneered new methods for enriching, detecting, and characterising secreted proteins from eukaryotic cells. Lindsay is a prominent author with publications in Cell Metabolism, Diabetes, and Molecular Metabolism.

Jonathan Surbeck | Operations and Government Liaison Officer
Liberty (Australia) Operations and Government Liaison Officer, Jon Surbeck, served as an Australian Army Officer for over 26 years. Jon's service saw him deployed in numerous oversea environments and representational postings on behalf of the Australian Defence Forces. Jon's final posting in the Army was as a member of the Defence Staff in Washington, D.C.
